Emergency Dentist Mt Eliza

Our Emergency Dentist Is Here for You

Same-Day Appointments May Be Available

At The Smile Place Mt Eliza, we keep appointments available for patients who may be experiencing tooth pain, a broken tooth, an infection or a traumatic incident affecting their teeth.

Contact the practice before 12pm to ask about a same-day appointment. Emergency appointments are subject to availability, and new and existing patients are welcome. Our practice is open Monday to Friday, with weekends closed.

Same-Day Emergency Dentist

We understand that dental emergencies need timely attention. Tell our reception team what has happened and describe your symptoms so we can discuss the next available appointment. For urgent care outside practice hours, see the after-hours providers on our Contact Us page.

Emergency Dental Team

Our dental team assesses concerns including toothache, damaged teeth, dental infection and injuries. Your dentist will explain their findings and discuss the care appropriate to your situation. Let us know if you are anxious about dental treatment.

Tailored Treatment Approach

We listen to your concerns, assess your teeth and discuss your options. Treatment depends on the cause and severity of the problem, your dental health and your preferences. Your dentist will explain relevant costs, risks and alternatives before you decide.

Payment Options

Our reception team can explain health fund claiming and payment plan options before your appointment. Third-party payment arrangements are subject to eligibility, fees and provider terms. Ask about costs and any gap payment when booking.

When to Seek Emergency Dental Care

Severe Toothache or Discomfort

Ongoing or sudden tooth concerns can indicate an underlying issue. Your dentist will assess the cause, discuss the findings and explain appropriate treatment options. Let reception know about your symptoms when you contact the practice so the team can advise you about arranging care.

Broken, Cracked or Chipped Teeth

Teeth can be damaged by an accident, biting or everyday wear. Treatment depends on the extent of the damage and the condition of the tooth. Your dentist may discuss a temporary measure, such as smoothing an edge or placing a temporary filling, before planning any further treatment.

Dental Infections or Abscess

A suspected dental infection needs prompt assessment. Tell the dental team about pain, swelling, fever or any change in your symptoms. Your dentist will assess the source of the problem and discuss treatment. Do not wait for a suspected infection to settle without seeking advice.

Swelling of the Gums

Swelling may indicate an infection or another dental concern. Contact a dental service for assessment and describe where the swelling is, when it started and whether it is spreading. Difficulty breathing or swallowing, or rapidly spreading swelling, requires emergency medical care.

Tooth Sensitivity or Nerve Exposure

Sensitivity to temperature or pressure may be associated with exposed tooth structure or other dental problems. Tell your dentist how long symptoms have been present and what makes them worse. An examination is needed to identify the cause and consider suitable care.

Knocked-Out or Traumatised Teeth

Contact a dental service immediately for advice if a tooth has been knocked out or injured. Time can be important, and the appropriate advice differs for baby and adult teeth. Describe the injury when you call and follow the treating dental team’s instructions.

If you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, rapidly spreading swelling or a serious injury, call 000 or attend an emergency department.

What Happens at Your Emergency Appointment

Your appointment begins with understanding the problem and assessing the care you need. The order and type of treatment depend on your circumstances.

For a broken tooth, your dentist may recommend a temporary filling or smoothing a damaged edge while further care is arranged. For an accident or dental trauma, contact the practice as soon as possible so reception can discuss an urgent assessment. An emergency appointment may address the immediate concern without completing all the treatment a tooth needs. Your dentist will explain whether another visit is required, what the next steps involve and the proposed costs. Please contact us again if symptoms change before your follow-up appointment.

1. Contact Us First

Describe your symptoms and when they started. Reception can discuss availability and what information to bring. Contacting us before 12pm may help with arranging a same-day appointment, subject to availability.

2. Arrive at the Practice

Bring information about medications, medical conditions and your health fund. Tell the team about any changes in your symptoms or concerns about dental treatment.

3. Assessment & Diagnosis

Your dentist will examine the affected area and may recommend x-rays where needed. They will explain what they find and discuss the available treatment options.

4. Treatment

The immediate priority is to address the urgent concern where appropriate. Some problems can be treated at the visit; others may need temporary care followed by a further appointment.

5. Follow-Up Plan

Before you leave, your dentist will discuss any further care, aftercare instructions and an estimate for recommended treatment. Ask questions if anything is unclear.
